Terms of Use
By downloading, installing, or using the PlayPair application or visiting our website, you agree to comply with and be bound by the following Terms of Use. Please read them carefully.
1. License & Scope of Use
PlayPair grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the PlayPair software on your devices in accordance with these Terms. You may not decompile, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source code of the binary launcher application without prior written consent.
2. Acceptable Use of Relay Servers
We provide a public SignalR relay server for temporary synchronization sessions. You agree to use these servers solely for media synchronization purposes. You must not:
- Use the servers to transmit illegal, malicious, or unauthorized data.
- Perform denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, port scanning, or try to overload/exploit the server infrastructure.
- Develop third-party tools that abuse our public relays for non-sync traffic.
We reserve the right to ban specific IPs or temporarily suspend public relay access without notice if we detect abusive behavior.
3. Private Server Hosting
You are permitted and encouraged to deploy your own instance of the PlayPair backend relay server in the cloud (e.g. using our Render Blueprint config) or on local hardware. When hosting your own server, you assume full responsibility for server maintenance, network costs, security, and log data storage.
4. Disclaimer of Warranties
PlayPair is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the application or our public relay servers will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or compatible with all third-party media players at all times.
5. Limitation of Liability
In no event shall PlayPair, its authors, or contributors be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages (including, but not limited to, data loss, connection issues, or service interruption) arising out of the use or inability to use the software, even if advised of the possibility of such damage.
6. Third-Party Media Players
PlayPair hooks into local operating system APIs (specifically the Windows Media Session API) to synchronize controls. PlayPair is an independent utility and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with Spotify, YouTube, VLC, Plex, Apple Music, Google, Microsoft, or any other media provider.
7. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with standard international software distribution practices. Any disputes arising from these Terms will be handled in the jurisdiction of the software's primary contributors.
